GoodGym launches Workout for the Future

Free workouts across the UK helping people and the planet

A new national campaign from GoodGym is bringing together environmental action, community connection and wellbeing in cities across the UK. Launched in the same week as Earth Day – Workout for the Future invites people to combine exercise with helping local environmental projects where they can run, walk or cycle to sessions and get stuck into practical tasks that make a difference.

Over the first three months, there are around 1,000 opportunities to get involved nationwide.

The campaign is supported by £700,000 in media spend through Sky’s Zero Footprint Fund.

It’s a free, flexible and environmentally friendly way to get active while helping your community. Sessions are happening all around the UK, and it’s simple to take part, just sign up and turn up. It’s about getting moving, meeting people and leaving places better than you found them.

Why it matters

The campaign taps into a growing demand, especially among younger people for activities that combine wellbeing, social connection and real-world impact. GoodGym’s recent research (based on surveys, interviews and focus groups) found:

83% of young people prioritise social connection

Community impact is the biggest motivator for volunteering, scoring 7.0 out of 10

In short, people want to feel good, do good and connect with others and Workout for the Future brings all three together.

At the heart of the campaign is the GoodGym community itself, people coming together to make a difference in their local areas.

Founder and CEO Ivo Gormley said:

“Doing a bit of work to make your city greener can also be an active and social experience. You’re hanging out with your friends, getting some exercise and making your city more sustainable.”

To help spread the word, the campaign is being shared with millions of households through a national TV advert on Sky, featuring real GoodGym volunteers transforming a community space in East London.

Fiona Ball, Group Director, Bigger Picture and Sustainability at Sky, said:

“GoodGym’s campaign shows how powerful simple, collective action can be. By bringing community and environmental impact together on screen, it makes getting involved feel accessible, social and rewarding.”

GoodGym is fast approaching 500,000 good deeds completed by nearly 27,000 runners, showing how small actions done together can have a big impact.
