Peace Runners 773: Movement as a Mission
Peace Runners 773 is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for health equity and community restoration. Founded on June 19, 2020, in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, the organization was born from a personal mission by founder Jackie Hoffman to improve his mother’s health. What began as a Juneteenth 5K with 20 participants has evolved into a transformative movement that uses running as a tool for healing, safety, and social change.
The “773” in our name is more than an area code—it’s a commitment to the West Side of Chicago. We operate in historically disinvested neighborhoods to bridge the life expectancy gap and provide residents with safe, inclusive spaces for physical and mental wellness.
Our Core Pillars
- Health Equity: We tackle systemic issues like obesity, cardiovascular disease, and mental health by providing free, accessible wellness resources to Black and Brown communities.
- Holistic Wellness: Our programming empowers individuals to prioritize their physical, mental, and social well-being.
- Community Safety: By reclaiming the streets through movement, we create a visible “peace presence” that fosters a sense of belonging and security.
- Resilience: We believe that finishing a race—whether it’s a 1-mile walk or a 26.2-mile marathon—teaches individuals that they are capable of overcoming any limitation.
