THOUSANDS TAKE TO THE STREETS OF PLYMOUTH FOR DEVON’S BIGGEST DAY OF RUNNING

Thousands of participants took to the streets of Plymouth on Sunday 17 May as Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival once again delivered Devon’s biggest day of running.

More than 10,000 participants lined up on the iconic Hoe Promenade to take part in the Plymouth Half Marathon and Plymouth 10k, with tens of thousands of spectators creating a vibrant atmosphere across the city centre and waterfront.

Participants of all abilities, from experienced club runners to those taking on their first ever event, completed routes showcasing some of Plymouth’s most scenic and historic locations.

The event once again proved to be a major boost for the city, drawing visitors from across the UK and beyond, while raising significant funds for charitable causes. Thousands of participants ran in support of charities close to their hearts, with current expectations to match last year’s total fundraising of over £750,000 across hundreds of charities.

Among those benefitting was official charity partner Jeremiah’s Journey, who had a strong presence across both distances, supported by fundraisers determined to make a difference.

The day also featured the Primary Schools’ Challenge, with 3,500 children completing the final mile of their twelve-week activity programme. Nearly all primary schools in the Plymouth catchment area took part in the challenge, creating a memorable and inspiring moment as a sea of young participants crossed the finish line on the Hoe.

Suzi Cumberland, Managing Director of organisers Taurus Events, said:
“Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival. From those chasing personal bests to those simply aiming to reach the finish line, every participant played a part in making the day so special.

We are incredibly proud of what this event brings to Plymouth, not just in terms of participation, but the atmosphere, the community spirit and the impact for charities. A huge thank you must also go to our volunteers, partners and the local community for their support in delivering such a memorable day.”

Spectators lined the route throughout the morning, offering encouragement and support as participants pushed themselves to achieve their goals, reinforcing the event’s reputation as one of the South West’s most welcoming and inclusive running events.

Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival continues to grow in stature, combining personal achievement, community spirit and a celebration of Plymouth’s unique waterfront setting.

Entries for the 2027 Plymouth Half Marathon, taking place on Sunday 16 May, will soon be open, with those interested encouraged to visit www.runplymouth.co.uk for further information.
