This week marks the end of an era – Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 10 after nearly a decade of service. If you’re still running Windows 10 on any of your business devices, we wanted to remind all RIA members about what this means and how to stay protected.
Why This Matters for Your Business
- Security Vulnerabilities: Without those regular security updates, your Windows 10 devices become more vulnerable to malware, ransomware, and cyberattacks. Since many of you are handling customer payments, online orders, and sensitive business data, keeping your systems secure is more important than ever.
- Compliance and Liability: Nobody wants to deal with compliance headaches or potential liability issues. Running customer transactions or storing data on unsupported systems could put you at risk, especially if a security breach happens down the line.
- Software Compatibility: Over time, the business tools you rely on daily – like your point-of-sale systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft 365 apps – may start having issues or lose support on Windows 10, which could disrupt your operations when you least expect it.
What Are Your Options?
The good news is you have choices. You can upgrade eligible devices to Windows 11, enroll in Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates program for one more year of protection, or look at replacing older hardware that can’t make the jump. The key is not to put it off – the sooner you address this, the safer your business will be.
