WALK FOR A CURE 2025 HITS THE GROUND RUNNING

Hundreds of walkers came together in Leeds on Sunday 18th May to kick-off this year’s Walk For A Cure series.

The walk at Harewood House saw family and friends walk in honour of loved ones impacted by dementia, aptly marking the eve of Dementia Action Week (19-25 May).

Following its successful launch in 2023, the charity’s flagship walking series has more than doubled in size. This year sees the exciting addition of two multi-distance hikes added to six scenic 5km walks across the nation.

335 people gathered at the start line, sharing their experiences of dementia, and walking with and in honour of their loved ones, whilst raising a remarkable total of over £130,000 to fund dementia research to date.

Hilary Evans-Newton, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:

“I am very grateful to everyone standing with Alzheimer’s Research UK and taking part in Walk For A Cure. Last year, hundreds of our amazing supporters came together in each location raising money for dementia research.”

She added:

“If nothing changes, one in two of us will be affected by dementia – either by caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both. Take part in Walk For A Cure this summer to support your brain health and do something meaningful for the people you love. Together we can change everything.”

Walk For A Cure is a powerful reminder that everyone can play a part in stopping dementia in its tracks. Whether you are walking, spreading the word, donating, or partnering with the cause.

Sajid Yacoob, EV, ESG and Renewables Director at Roadchef, said:

“Playing a key part in the nation’s journeys for over 50-years, Roadchef has seen countless memories being made every day. With almost one million people affected by dementia in the UK, we are proud to partner with Alzheimer’s Research UK to help protect those memories.

“This year, Roadchef is supporting the charity’s Walk For A Cure series. Our teams are excited to hit the road for a cause close to our hearts this summer. We will be lacing up our walking shoes to volunteer at the events across the country.”

They’re joined by the charity’s long-standing partner The Perfume Shop, whose continued commitment brings both energy and creativity to the series.

Karen Harris, Customer Director at The Perfume Shop, said:

“The Perfume Shop is delighted to be joining Alzheimer’s Research UK for Walk For A Cure again this year. Our Perfume Shop People will be volunteering and taking part at events across the country. Keep an eye out for The Perfume Shop’s Vera Van, which will also be making an appearance around the country surprising and delighting the participants and guests.

“The Perfume Shop is proud to continue to walk with our charity partner, Alzheimer’s Research UK, for a cure for dementia.”
