njuko expands in Sweden by partnering with Göteborgsvarvet on event registration

Event registration and tech platform njuko has agreed a new partnership with Göteborgsvarvet in Sweden, also known as the Gothenburg Half Marathon and billed as ‘the world´s biggest half’.

The new partnership sees njuko powering the registrations for the half marathon and ‘Varvet Week’ – a series of running events leading up to race day.

Göteborgsvarvet, organised by the Göteborg Athletics Association, is one of the world’s largest annual half marathons in terms of participant entries. The event, which is held annually in May, attracts between 50,000 to 65,000 participants annually.

The 2016 edition saw a record 64,500 entrants. Recent editions have also seen strong numbers, with nearly 40,000 participants in 2023 and 40,638 finishers in 2024.

To manage the large field of runners, the event uses a sophisticated start system, with athletes divided into up to 31 waves. According to njuko, a key feature of the partnership was the development of a bespoke start wave system.

Matt Trevett from njuko said “This is event is an amazing one to work with – and a great example of specific functionality needed to improve the registration journey.

“The team at Göteborgsvarvet are great to work with, they get exactly how important it is to personalise the registration journey using njuko features and we look forward to more of their innovative ideas coming our way in future.”

In addition to the new Göteborgsvarvet partnership, njuko has recently worked with the IRONMAN Group and Amaury Sport Organisation for the Paris Marathon. The company has also launched in regions such as Australia, New Zealand, China, and South America in 2025.
