LimeLight Sports Club: Oxford Half sold out – but charity places still available

General entries for the 2023 Oxford Half Marathon have sold out, with a record 13,000 runners registered to take to the iconic streets of Oxford this October.

Marking one month to go until the event on Sunday 15 October, event organisers LimeLight Sports Club, who also run the annual Blenheim Palace Triathlon, have announced that the only way to secure a place for the popular event is by running in support of one of the event’s charity partners.

A limited number of places are still available via national charity partners Cancer Research UK, the Alzheimer’s Society, Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.

Runners can also raise money for a string of local charities, with SSNAP, Special Effect, Helen & Douglas House, Oxfordshire Mind, Restore, Sobell House, Oxford Food Hub, Thames Valley Air Ambulance, Oxford Hospitals Charity and Yellow Submarine all benefiting from their final few charity places.

The race has become one of the most-popular half marathons in the UK, with large crowds providing support along the 13.1-mile route, and dozens of local volunteers helping on the day.

The annual half marathon also has a positive impact on the city’s economy, with runners coming from across the UK to take part, including a growing number who chose to extend their visit to include an overnight stay.

James Hogben, MD of LimeLight Sports, said: “We are very excited to have sold out this year’s Oxford Half. With a month to go now, final preparations are in place for many runners, but there is still a huge opportunity for people to run for charity and help raise vital funds for extremely good causes.

“As an event, we want the Oxford Half to provide positive impact to the area – be that in the tourism and economical benefit of hosting the event, to supporting important local causes. Sport and physical activity, particularly participation events, have a big responsibility to people and the planet, which we are passionate about at LimeLight Sports Club. Aligned to this, the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of not only running but also taking part in events like this are massively beneficial to individuals, from beginners to regulars.”

Starting on Broad Street, near Trinity College, and ending on Park Road, the route takes in much of Oxford’s stunning architecture and there will also be live entertainment at various points throughout the course.
