Run for Deo – Run for Change at latest Moving Meet

Aspire’s Moving Meets connect people, professionals and brands who are passionate about sports, outdoors and wellbeing to discuss topics while on the move.

Tom Kerry represented Running Industry Alliance at the latest Moving Meet – Run for Deo, Run for Change! This event was in support Deo Kato’s epic run challenge from Cape Town to London, which Deo started on 24th July 2023.

Members of multiple run communities gathered at the Africa Centre to take part in a run led by Tasha Thompson and Black Girls Do Run UK, followed by a chat with David Bone from Camino and Alice Light, Deo’s partner.

Deo Kato is a Ugandan-born trail runner who has grown up in London. Following the murder of George Floyd, Deo wants to inspire positive change and show nothing is impossible.

He is now crossing 14 countries, 2 continents, 14,570 kilometres (9,053 miles) and 53,400m of elevation – that’s 8 times the height of Everest – highlighting where humanity first walked on earth.

Deo said: “Going on this journey is important because it matters to tell our history from an African [perspective]. I will also show the next generation that nothing is impossible. If you can see it and believe it, you can become it. We all come from the same land; mother nature doesn’t care who you are. We should all be appreciated in the same way.”
