ASICS strengthens its trail running team with the signing of Sara Alonso

Alonso joins a portfolio of more than 50 trail runners representing the brand in Europe.

ASICS signs the current winner of the Marathon du Mont-Blanc , Sara Alonso, who continues to strengthen her presence in the field of trail running. The Basque athlete will have a contract for the next few seasons and joins an international team of more than 50 trail runners. Sara is currently recovering from an injury and her goal is to return to training and competition as soon as possible. She says: “Running is what makes me happy and makes me feel good physically and mentally. There is nothing comparable to the feeling of finishing a hard training session”.

This young and talented young woman from San Sebastian started out in athletics as a hurdle jumper and middle-distance runner until, in 2019, she took part in her first long-distance race. At just 19 years old, she took the start in the classic Behobia – San Sebastian (20 km), where she finished 8th in the overall female classification with a time of 1:14:26.

After her debut in long distances, the Basque runner began to dabble with trail running in 2020, where she came 2nd in the Canfranc – Canfranc (16 km). From then on, she left aside the tartan and asphalt to focus on trail competitions.

Despite her short experience, in 2021 Alonso again demonstrated her potential with international events. She achieved 3rd place for women in the Chiemgau Trail Run (Germany – 44 km) and in the Skyrhune (France – 21 km). She also took 9th place in the Nations Cup, held in Italy (19 km).

With more kilometers in her legs and greater skill in the modality, Alonso took a leap in quality in 2022. This past season, she won the Transgrancanaria (45 km) and finished 3rd in the Zegama – Aizkorri (42 km). In addition, she won the Spanish Mountain Race Championship shortly before winning the Marathon du Mont-Blanc (42 km). All in all, she managed to finish 3rd in the overall classification of the Golden Trail Series.

With this impressive present and a promising future, Alonso joins the ASICS Running team with the aim of continuing to demonstrate his athletic skills. He has already had the opportunity to try out some of the shoes with which he hopes to continue to reap victories:

“My favourite shoes are the Fuji Lite 3. Also, the grip of the sole is very good and gives an excellent sensation. I can’t wait to get over the injury and get back into them again. Sometimes, I imagine myself enjoying them on a trail. That helps me to improve my mood and keep me optimistic”

The signing of Sara Alonso is not the only commitment to trail running that ASICS is making for 2023. The brand has already announced its commitment to the ASICS Penyagolosa Trails, one of the most important trail races in Spain. In addition, the Japanese firm continues to dazzle with models such as ASICS Fujispeed or ASICS Fuji Lite 3, the two shoes that Alonso will use the most when she returns to competition.
