Mexican National Record Holder Lorena Rangel Batres Signs Professional Deal with On
Rangel Batres becomes the first female and only active Mexican athlete on the growing athlete roster
Zurich, Switzerland, June 2025 – Swiss sportswear brand On is excited to announce that Lorena Rangel Batres has signed a professional deal following a successful college career at Louisiana State University.
Having never practiced any sport until age 11, Rangel Batres’ running journey began after watching the 2012 London Olympics. Motivated by the limited Mexican representation she saw on the track, she set her sights on becoming an Olympian—a goal she still passionately pursues. Initially, track seemed like the simplest sport, requiring only a pair of shoes. While she quickly discovered it was far from easy, Rangel Batres fell in love with the challenge and has dedicated herself to running ever since.
She started out as a sprinter and eventually moved into the 800m distance aged 17. Showing promising talent on the track, she was recruited to run for Louisiana State University in 2020 where she discovered her love for the 1500m and cross country disciplines as well.
She achieved the honor of being a USTFCCCA Second Team All-American once and was recognized as a Second Team All-SEC athlete on three separate occasions. Her name is etched multiple times in the LSU All-Time Top 10 Performance List, holding the No. 1 position for the Indoor One Mile with a time of 4:26.57 and the Outdoor 1500 Meters at 4:09.06. Furthermore, she set records as part of the No. 1 Indoor Distance Medley Relay team (10:47.17) and Outdoor Distance Medley Relay team (10:59.86).
Beyond her remarkable achievements on the track, Rangel-Batres also consistently proved her dominance in cross country. During her collegiate career, she secured her first top-10 finish at the UNO Opener in her sophomore year and won the LSU Invitational meet. In her junior year, she opened her season with a win at the FSU Invitational meet. She went on to help LSU secure a third-place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional meet, competing in the 5k and 6k distances. Her outstanding collegiate career culminated with Rangel Batres becoming the top runner for LSU in all six meets, leading to her becoming the fourth woman in LSU history to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Building on her collegiate success, Rangel Batres has also excelled on the international level, representing Mexico at various levels. In 2023, she secured a bronze medal in the 1500m at the Mexican Championships. A year later, she went on to secure silver in the same distance and crowned herself Mexican Champion in the 800m distance. During the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational held this February, Rangel Batres set new national records in the 1500m and mile distances.
Now a graduate of LSU, she is pursuing a career as a professional runner and has signed a professional contract with On. Speaking about her decision, Rangel Batres said: “For me, On is more than just a brand; it represents innovation, sustainability, and the pursuit of excellence. As a professional runner, I couldn’t ask for a better association than with a company so focused on creating top-tier products and fostering the best in its athletes.”
Kevin Quadrozzi, Athlete Manager at On, shared the sentiment: “Lorena has proven herself a formidable talent. We’re excited to welcome her to On and look forward to supporting her as she continues to unlock her potential and captivate the athletics world.”
