Global Fundraisers Raise Over £285,000 for Cure Leukaemia, Funding Five Research Nurses for a Year
Over 200 international runners and riders unite across iconic events to give hope to blood cancer patients
Cure Leukaemia are delighted to announce an incredible fundraising milestone, with over £285,000 raised and climbing through its supporters’ participation in the Paris Marathon, London Marathon, and Paris-Roubaix cycling challenge last month! The funds raised will fund five specialist research nurses for an entire year, helping to connect blood cancer patients with potentially life-saving clinical trials.
More than 200 dedicated runners and riders from 29 nations, including the US, Singapore, Australia and Honduras, took part in the iconic events, showcasing a remarkable global effort to support the fight against blood cancer. Participants ranged widely in age and experience, but each crossed the finish line knowing they were making a real and vital difference to patients and their families.
Among the standout stories were brothers duo Jeff and Barry Leon, who raised over £26,000 by running the Paris Marathon in honour of a close friend currently undergoing treatment for blood cancer in New York. Their inspiring efforts exemplify the deeply personal reasons that drive so many to take on these physical and fundraising challenges.
Cure Leukaemia Chief Executive James McLaughlin praised the international spirit of the campaign:
“It’s so pleasing to see the global support we are now receiving for our events. To have individuals from 29 different countries unite with us across these events is truly special. They’re not just running or riding – they’re giving hope to blood cancer patients across the world. We are deeply grateful for every single participant, donor, and supporter who has helped us reach this milestone.”
With the total raised still rising, Cure Leukaemia is urging anyone inspired by these efforts to consider taking on their own fundraising challenge.
In 2026 we’re delighted to be the Diamond Charity partner of the Paris Marathon, meaning you could be partner of our biggest ever Marathon team!
