BRITISH ATHLETICS: ASTON MOORE ANNOUNCED AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
UK Athletics are delighted to announce that Aston Moore has been announced as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award ahead of UK Coaching Awards next month.
Moore, who has coached some of the greats in British sport over the years and continues to support several elite athletes in the UK, will receive the honour at December’s ceremony.
He was appointed as UK Athletics National Event Coach for Horizontal Jumps 20 years ago and is the longest-serving employed coach at the organisation.
During his coaching career, he helped Phillips Idowu MBE achieve global recognition by becoming an Olympic triple jump silver medallist and World champion, as well as coaching Ashia Hansen MBE to several world indoor, European and Commonwealth medals. He has more recently seen Paralympic success with champion long jumpers and sprinters Stefanie Reid MBE and Olivia Breen.
A long-time member of Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club, Aston has supported and nurtured multiple world champions and Olympic and Paralympic medallists to become the most successful Black athletics coach in the country. A former Great Britain Olympic triple jumper, Aston was a two-time Commonwealth Games bronze medallist before embarking on a career in coaching.
UK Athletics CEO, Jack Buckner, said, “We are delighted that Aston Moore will be honoured by UK Coaching with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Everyone at UK Athletics will join me in congratulating Aston on this incredible achievement and a superb coaching career to date.
“Aston’s contribution to success in UK athletics over the years has been hugely significant, as he has supported, and continues to support, a number of Olympic and Paralympic athletes to achieve their goals and succeed at the highest level. We are all very proud to see his work and efforts over the years be recognised through this prestigious award.”
Stef Reid spoke about the influence Aston had on her as a person and an athlete: “I had the best time with Aston; we had an adventure. I look back on my career and my time together with him, and it’s just filled with so much joy. I am so pleased with my career, and I really like who I am and who I have become in the process, and Aston is a huge reason to that.”
His influence on athletes extends beyond the competition field – Aston was asked by two-time World, European and Commonwealth triple jump champion Ashia Hansen if he would give her away on her wedding day. “Aston is like a father to me,” says Ashia. “I knew Aston was the right person for me, he knew what motivated me, he knew how to get the best out of me.”
